There are few things more classic, versatile, and timeless than a black turtleneck. Think Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe,  and Jackie O.

I had been wanting a thick-knit black turtleneck for a while and found the one at the Salvation Army for $4. Can’t beat that! In the name of being practical in the snow, I wore it with jeans and my Hunter boots, but once the weather turns around, I’m having visions of wearing it with my tulle skirt and ballet flats.

Have a great Monday!

TGIF! This week was a good one, but busy, busy, busy, and I’m ready for some r & r this weekend. Truth be told, I have zero plans, and that’s okay with me. Maybe I’ll do some reading, baking, and crafting — the weekend is my oyster!

Have a good one!

Howdy! I have some advice to impart about wearing long layers like these. When getting into cars, make sure the tail of your super-long shirt doesn’t get shut into the door and fly outside for the whole drive, getting wet and dirty from snow and salt along the way. This will help you avoid needing to wash the tail of said shirt in the sink at Target — where they don’t have hand dryers, by the way, leaving you walking around Target with a wet shirttail. Yep, this happened when I wore this outfit on Sunday … oy vey.

Happy Hump Day — we’re halfway there!

Well, another weekend has come and gone. I feel like I could have used an extra day tacked on to this one. On Saturday, when I wore this outfit, Chris and I pursued our own interests for the morning and afternoon. He headed to a woodworking show, and I went thrift shopping at the Salvation Army — where I scored a couple great finds! We met back at the house to enjoy a snowy afternoon/evening at home.

How was your weekend?

This past Christmas, I made a conscious effort to not shop for myself. We all know it’s easy to fall victim to holiday deals and end up spending more on yourself than your giftees! The only moment of weakness I had was when I saw this macaron t-shirt at Urban Outfitters. With my determination to master the art of macaron baking, this t-shirt was calling my name, and costing less than $20, how could I resist?

I wore this casual tee-and-jeans outfit out on Saturday to the movies. We snapped these photos inside to avoid the soggy weather, and also so we could play around with our new camera flash (my Christmas gift to Chris!). It’s definitely nice to now have the option to take indoor photos when the weather is not cooperating.

Hi, there! How was your weekend? I kept it low-key and used my time to catch up on this and that. I told you on Friday that we were going to see The Hobbit this weekend, but we ended up seeing The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with some friends instead. It was a fun, feel-good movie that I’d recommend checking out if you get the chance. I’m hoping we actually do get to see The Hobbit next weekend … back in the day I would have been at the midnight premier!

On a more style-related note, I wore this outfit on Sunday. The last time you saw this Tolani wrap was for the Sigur Ros concert this past fall. I love how versatile it is, summer through winter, whether I’m curled up on the couch, at the office, or layered up to go out and about.

Good luck with your Monday!

Don’t let these photos fool you. The day after Chris and I went to the park to take them, 10 more inches of snow was dumped on Indianapolis. Then, to add insult to injury, we’ve had sub-zero temperatures to deal with the past few days. Brr! Neither Chris nor I have been able to leave the house since Saturday, so we’re getting a little stir crazy around here. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’m really looking forward to [hopefully] getting out of the house and going to work today.

Let’s just say that this week I’m super thankful for a warm house, a flexible job, heated floors, the fact that my car is in a garage, slippers, Digiorno pizza, and a husband who shovels our driveway.

Today is my first day back to work, and it’s pretty bittersweet. Not going to lie, probably more bitter than sweet, but I’ll get back into the swing of things soon enough. At least it’s only a two-day week!

I lived in various forms of this outfit for most of my Christmas vacation: leggings, long & loose layers, knit socks, and boots. What can I say? I love to be comfortable! A new online boutique called Zou Styles sent me the chevron poncho I’m wearing in these photos, and although trendy, I think it’s going to have a long-lasting home in my closet. It’s thick-knit and warm and perfectly cozy for cold winter days. (And also great for masking holiday weight from too many cookies 😉 )

Also, because I’m a sucker for great packaging, I have to share these photos of the box I received from Zou Styles.

Hello there! This is one happy Wednesday for me because it’s my first day of Christmas vacation. I am thoroughly ready to enjoy a  long holiday break until the new year.

Aren’t the Christmas lights in these photos fun? This was all set up for Santa’s recent visit to our town plaza 😉 We got there just before all the kids lined up to tell Santa their Christmas wishes. I remember as a kid, I was never too fond of sitting with Santa … or anyone in costume, for that matter, so there really aren’t many photos of me with Santa. I always thought there was something fishy about those guys…

Today I’m heading out to do my last bit of Christmas shopping. I have one thing left to purchase and then a few things left to wrap. On Saturday, Karin’s coming over to bake cookies with me. I’m feeling pretty on top of my holiday preparations this year. How are yours coming along?!

This past weekend was the best. Thursday night and into Friday, we had our first accumulating snow of the year. It snowed on and off for the rest of the weekend, leaving everything white and beautiful. On Friday night, Chris and I had our date night and ate at Cracker Barrel; some comfort was what the weather ordered.

Saturday was a big day for me because I got my ears pierced … for the first time, ever! I took my best friend Karin with me and went to Icing to get the full experience. I chose small, simple gold studs, and I’m hoping Santa brings me some more earrings for Christmas! 🙂

Saturday afternoon, Chris and I went to a nearby Christmas tree farm to pick out our tree. It was so fun walking through the aisles of trees, in the snow, choosing the perfect one. I’ll have a full post on that later this week, so stay tuned!

Sunday was dedicated to errands and getting our tree up and decorated. Our house is looking good right now, let me tell you. I can’t wait to share photos of our tree, which is pretty big. You can see it how tall it is in this Instagram shot. Sunday night, we had Crock Pot chili and watched The Amazing Race finale.

Tell me about your weekend – I’d love to hear!
