A Quick Housekeeping Note

Bright Spray Roses

Hey guys! I’m in the process of migrating Tulle and Trinkets to a self-hosted WordPress blog. It’s something I’ve been hemming and hawing over doing for a year now and decided it’s time to go for it. Things might be quiet around here this week as I work everything out, but I’m hoping for an easy and seamless transition (fingers crossed!). I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to transfer my WordPress.com and Email followers over, but am not 100% sure, so hopefully I won’t lose anyone! (By the way, if you happen to know how to do this, please, please let me know!)

That’s it for now. See you guys on the other side!

A Small & Simple Desktop Floral Arrangement

As I write this, it is -7 degrees outside. -7! It’s been a rough, bitter-cold winter around here, but there are some glimmers of hope that are getting me through. First off, January is almost over and February is a short month that will fly by with the Olympics to keep us occupied. That means March will be here before we know it. My other glimmer of hope is that spring bulb flowers have been popping up at the flower shop recently. I used iris in my last arrangement, have some yellow tulips on the kitchen counter, and this arrangement features some freesia (which smells SO good). I made this arrangement for a project at work and then left it on my desk for the rest of the week. A bright and fragrant arrangement can really liven up a drab office cubicle, and this little one is the perfect size for a desk. Plus, it’s simple to make!

Desktop Floral Arrangement

You will need: 3 pieces leatherleaf, 3 stems white larkspur, 4 stems freesia (I used 2 purple, 2 yellow), scissors or a knife, a small vase with water and flower preservative.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

1. Green the vase with the leatherleaf.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

2. Add the tallest piece of larkspur.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

3. Add two shorter pieces of larkspur on either side of the tall one.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

4. Add a yellow stem of freesia making it a little shorter than the tallest piece of larkspur.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

5. Add a purple stem of freesia making it a little shorter than the first yellow stem of freesia.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

6. Add another yellow stem of freesia making it a little shorter than the purple stem.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

7. Add the last stem of purple freesia lower than the last yellow piece.

Desktop Floral Arrangement

It’s as simple as that! A pretty little reminder that spring is on its way.

There are few things more classic, versatile, and timeless than a black turtleneck. Think Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe,  and Jackie O.

I had been wanting a thick-knit black turtleneck for a while and found the one at the Salvation Army for $4. Can’t beat that! In the name of being practical in the snow, I wore it with jeans and my Hunter boots, but once the weather turns around, I’m having visions of wearing it with my tulle skirt and ballet flats.

Have a great Monday!

TGIF! This week was a good one, but busy, busy, busy, and I’m ready for some r & r this weekend. Truth be told, I have zero plans, and that’s okay with me. Maybe I’ll do some reading, baking, and crafting — the weekend is my oyster!

Have a good one!

Howdy! I have some advice to impart about wearing long layers like these. When getting into cars, make sure the tail of your super-long shirt doesn’t get shut into the door and fly outside for the whole drive, getting wet and dirty from snow and salt along the way. This will help you avoid needing to wash the tail of said shirt in the sink at Target — where they don’t have hand dryers, by the way, leaving you walking around Target with a wet shirttail. Yep, this happened when I wore this outfit on Sunday … oy vey.

Happy Hump Day — we’re halfway there!

Well, another weekend has come and gone. I feel like I could have used an extra day tacked on to this one. On Saturday, when I wore this outfit, Chris and I pursued our own interests for the morning and afternoon. He headed to a woodworking show, and I went thrift shopping at the Salvation Army — where I scored a couple great finds! We met back at the house to enjoy a snowy afternoon/evening at home.

How was your weekend?

So, I have a little story to share this Friday that I hope will make you smile. I had some flowers delivered to my grandma and grandpa’s retirement home this week as a thank you for the Christmas gift they sent Chris and me, and also as a pick-me-up because they were both pretty sick over the holidays. Honestly, it wasn’t something I was planning on doing — I rarely send flowers. It was a whim after I saw a ProFlowers.com email advertising a special on their dozen rainbow roses. Considering the fact that I have hundreds of unread emails from ProFlowers in my gmail, it’s amazing I even saw the deal.

My grandma called me Tuesday night absolutely thrilled with the roses. She told me  it was the first time anyone had ever sent her flowers and that she took them down to the dining room so everyone in the home could see them. How cute is that?! She told me the flowers came at a perfect time because she and my grandpa are getting ready to celebrate their  wedding anniversary and my grandpa’s 91st birthday — two holidays I admit I would have let go by without a card.

The roses made her day — and how happy they made her made mine. All because I randomly opened that ProFlowers email. Don’t you love a good chain of events? I do.

This past Christmas, I made a conscious effort to not shop for myself. We all know it’s easy to fall victim to holiday deals and end up spending more on yourself than your giftees! The only moment of weakness I had was when I saw this macaron t-shirt at Urban Outfitters. With my determination to master the art of macaron baking, this t-shirt was calling my name, and costing less than $20, how could I resist?

I wore this casual tee-and-jeans outfit out on Saturday to the movies. We snapped these photos inside to avoid the soggy weather, and also so we could play around with our new camera flash (my Christmas gift to Chris!). It’s definitely nice to now have the option to take indoor photos when the weather is not cooperating.

Date Night In

There’s a documentary on Netflix called Somm that is a must-watch if you’re at all interested in wine. It’s about a group of guys who are preparing to take the Master Sommelier Exam. With a swirl, sniff, and taste, they can identify the type, year, and region of a given wine, as well as crazy-specific tasting notes.

After watching it, Chris and I have been trying different wines and seeing if we can identify the tasting notes, and Chris got us a nice bottle of wine for a date night in …

To go with the wine, we cooked filet mignon and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Delicious!

We really enjoyed the wine and properly identified cherries and cranberries!

Nikki and Hermes the Cats

It felt like a double-date with the cats watching us so intently 😉 (We all know they were just begging for a taste of the filet mignon.)

Dark Chocolate

For dessert, I had a little bit of bitter dark chocolate while we watched Star Trek. It was a perfect night at home!

We’re such homebodies that many times we prefer a date night in. Plus, it’s cheaper, and nine times out of 10, we enjoy the food we cook at home more than what we get out at restaurants.  The only downside? Having to do dishes after dinner!
