There’s a documentary on Netflix called Somm that is a must-watch if you’re at all interested in wine. It’s about a group of guys who are preparing to take the Master Sommelier Exam. With a swirl, sniff, and taste, they can identify the type, year, and region of a given wine, as well as crazy-specific tasting notes.
After watching it, Chris and I have been trying different wines and seeing if we can identify the tasting notes, and Chris got us a nice bottle of wine for a date night in …

Our sommelier for the evening, Hermes!

The wine: 2009 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Cent-Vignes pinot noir.

It only seemed appropriate to light the candlesticks.

To go with the wine, we cooked filet mignon and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Delicious!

We really enjoyed the wine and properly identified cherries and cranberries!

It felt like a double-date with the cats watching us so intently 😉 (We all know they were just begging for a taste of the filet mignon.)

For dessert, I had a little bit of bitter dark chocolate while we watched Star Trek. It was a perfect night at home!
We’re such homebodies that many times we prefer a date night in. Plus, it’s cheaper, and nine times out of 10, we enjoy the food we cook at home more than what we get out at restaurants. The only downside? Having to do dishes after dinner!
